She {hearts} Blue Orange Games

I have never really been a huge fan of board games.

I know, I know, this admission probably makes me sound like the worst mother ever.

But, whatever.

I didn’t like them when I was younger. And I don’t like them now.

The kids cheat and fight. Dumb Dad cheats and trash talks. It’s hard to find something that the four year old AND the ten year old can enjoy. And they take FOREVER to end. Unless I cheat too. And,while I’m not above that, I find it an exercise in excess creativity I don’t really have.

Maybe it’s just the type of board games we’ve been playing?!

Recently Blue Orange Games sent us Spot it.

It is a symbol matching game that for some reason my kids, my husband, and I all love to play!

You can’t cheat. There’s nothing to fight over. And it’s appropriate for every member of our family, from the 4 year old on up (although, technically, the game is geared towards kids 7 & up, he is a pretty savvy 4 and has had no problem having a blast with us and this game).

It’s easy to play, doesn’t require a lot of set up, doesn’t take FOREVER to finish, so it’s no wonder that we love, love, love it.

It’s even perfect for road trip fun in the back seat because all you need is the cards and, um, eyes!

I went online to check out some of Blue Orange’s other gaming options and honestly, they make so many perfect titles for my Dudes.  So many of their games are active, noisy, and filled with the kind of fun my boys were made for!

She {hearts} Sibu Beauty

I honestly never realized how important adult skin care was until I broke out in a mad case of adult acne about a year ago.

Prior to that, even in my teens, I’d always had pretty much flawless skin.  Like sure, I’d get a pimple from time to time, but it would do it’s thing and disappear without a trace.

Plus, I am blessed with good skin genes on both my mom’s side and my dad’s side so I’ve never really worried about wrinkle creams or anti-aging miracle cures, or any of that madness.

But then, I was 29 Again and my body decided it was going to hate me.

My facial acne was so, so bad; evil, painful pimples that would leave scars and discolorations and other hideousness in their wake.

I’d never worn a stitch of make-up prior to this point, but I immediately figured out the difference between pressed powder and foundation.

After a multitude of trips to the dermatologist, and a whole mess of topical skin cleansers, creams, and magical potions, I finally whipped my acne back a bit.

But, once it was under control I realized, I had another problem: my skin was battered, bruised, and dried out like the Mojave Desert from all of the treatments I had used.

Thank goodness for tasty moisturizers.

I’ve tried all sorts, and I can’t even begin to tell you that I’m an expert on this stuff, but I can say that I’ve found a couple that I really do enjoy using.

One of them is the Sea Buckthorn Facial Cream from Sibu Beauty.

It’s filled with all kinds of fatty acids and collagen and awesomeness to protect your skin and lock in the moisture.

And it smells heavenly.  Seriously, my favorite thing about using this product every morning is the energizing scent!

{heart} It

At $20.95, Sibu’s Sea Buckthorn Facial Cream is way more accessible than a number of other brands I have sampled.

She {hearts} Repurpose Compostables Disposable Coffee Cups

I’ll be honest.

I’m not a super green person.

I mean, I want to be.  But for a number of reasons, the main one being that I’m super busy and forget things easily, I don’t participate in as many green and green type activities as I should.

I use reusable bags.  I scream down my kids to turn off the lights.  And I’ve started buying those insanely ridiculous light bulbs from Ikea.

You know, the ones that cost more than most of the lamps?

I’ve been trying to find easier and more cost effective ways to make my life and my house and my family greener.

Things that people with for for real, busy lives can do that won’t break the bank or make them hate green living.

Things like, um, screaming down my kids to turn off the lights.

And using that huge recycling bin the sanitation people dropped off at my house.

Lately, I’ve taken it a step further by taking my caffeinated beverages in these really cool repurposed cups.

Interestingly enough, the company is called Repurpose Compostables and the cups they make are made from 100% renewable resources, lined with plant material, AND are compostable within 90 days!

Talk about lowering your carbon footprint!

To save money, I gave up buying coffee outside of the house (unless I’m on vacation) and I’ve taken to hauling around my own which makes these cups perfect!  I don’t have to worry about losing them (like I always did with my other cups) and, when I do find myself having to buy a cup (because of a meeting or something) I just take this into my local cafe and ask them to put my drink inside!

Another cool tidbit?

Tons of celebrities are using these too!

They’ve been endorsed by Sheryl Crow, Maroon 5, and the Dave Mathews Band.  Plus, they’ve even been getting some buzz in magazine pages like Us Weekly!

I love going green especially when it’s this easy and cool!

{heart} It

Repurpose Compostables can be purchased in boxes of 12 cups and lids online for less than $5!  And they can be found at your local Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

She {hearts} Freebies

Repurpose Compostableshas given us a box of their cups to give away to a lucky reader, but even more than that they hope their message to be kinder to our planet and our bodies sticks with you!  And, they want to reward awesome and creative repurposers with something fun (check out the Repurpose Compostables Facebook page for deets)!  Want to win the cups from us?  Just leave a comment telling us how you go green at your house!

She {hearts} Udi’s Gluten Free Foods.

I could stand to lose a few pounds.

It’s a situation I blame entirely on having three big babies (who, in utero, loved it when I ate fries dipped in chocolate milkshakes at bedtime), my unexplained aversion to sweating, and my inability to stick to a healthy diet.

I eat cupcakes in my garage for crying out loud.

And, they aren’t the gluten-free, sugar-free, low-fat, vegan sort people swear are delicious.

They are the good old fashioned, chocolate on chocolate sort that I know taste yummy and have probably 400 calories a pop.

Not good.

Fortunately, while starving my face off in a San Diego hotel room I could scarcely afford during BlogHer11, I was introduced to something that is good.

Not only to you, but for you!

Meet Udi’s Gluten Free Foods.

The are the makers of some of the most delicious treats-that-aren’t-out-right-bad-for-you I have ever wrapped lips around.

Best part for this family?

They’re nut-free too!  And soy-free and gluten-free, if you are into that, but no nuts?!

Not even made around nuts!

Um, awesome.

As a mom to a peanut-allergic little Dude it’s awesome to come home and see this…

and not have to freak out with my oh-my-gosh-did-you-read-the-labels-on-these-is-his-tongue-swollen-outta-his-face-what-have-you-done-man shenanigans I usually put people through when they give my kid food without my express written approval!

I was a little peeved that I didn’t even get to eat any of the Snickerdoodle ones (they’re my fave), while simultaneously being excited that I didn’t have to try the oatmeal ones (uh, raisins, gag).  I’m hiding the chocolate chip ones in my garage.  With my cupcakes.

{heart} It

Udi’s gluten Free Foods can be found in retailers across the nation.  Or, you can just jump on their site and order what you love from there!  One box of the cookies retails for $5.00.  But, you can get 8 for $38.00.  Believe me, you want 8!

Want to try before you buy?!  Udi’s is giving on She {hearts} It winner an Udi’s Gluten Free Foods cookie sampler pack!  That means you can try all three varieties before you settle on a favorite!

She {hearts} The Mother’s Touch Digital Forehead Thermometer

It’s officially cold and flu season.

I know.

Total bummer.

But, might as well get ready while there’s still time.

Before the nighttime, sniffling, sneezing, nobody can rest because you’re hacking up a lung no matter how much medicine you take, junk kicks in.

And, as far as kids go, you’re going to need to make sure you have all of the right tools.

Humidifiers, nasal syringe thingy, and a thermometer.

You could go for one of those, um, anal numbers or you can go for the under the arm deal.  But, those are tough, because sick kids are squirmy.

So, I say try this little number: the Mother’s Touch Digital Forehead Thermometer from Walgreens.

It’s perfect for sick and wiggly little bodies because you can restrain them hug them close while they wiggle about.  Way more comforting than being yelled at to sit still already, right?!

It’s fast, easy, and accurate; exactly what you need in between rushing them to the potty to er, relieve themselves, every 30 minutes.

{heart} It

Find the thermometer in Walgreens stores or at Walgreens.com for $29.99.

She {hearts} Personalized Labels from InchBug

Back to school time is officially here.

Well, for us it is anyway.

I’ve spent the last few weeks buying shoes, lunchboxes, backpacks, jeans, button-up shirts, pencils, highlighters, and more glue sticks than one human child can possibly use in a single school year.

And then there are these little doozies…

Custom drink labels from Inchbug.

They have all sort; the sticky ones, the photo ones, the ones you can write on, and the ones that identify your kid’s meal as the peanut/soy/lactose free one.

Personally, I love the plastic Orbit labels best because they don’t fade from being stuck in the dishwasher time and time again (they are dishwasher AND microwave safe!)!  Such an easy way to keep your child’s drinks separate and sanitary at school and on fields and anywhere else they might get mixed up with those of their pals.

{heart} It

The customizable labels from Inchbug can be made with your kiddo’s first name, last name, or both.  I got ours personalized with just our last name so that all of  The Dudes could share them, but whatever you decide they make identifying your child’s sippy cup, water bottle, or whatever other kind of beverage or snack container he or she prefers from that of their friends and classmates.    The Orbit labels retail for $12.95 and come in sets of four personalized labels.

She {hearts} Freebies

We’re happy to hook your family one up with a personalized set to start the school year off right (and sanitary so there’s no accidental drink sharing!) with a giveaway.  One set of personalized Orbit labels for one luck reader!  Just leave a comment telling us your best tip for staying healthy when school starts and you’re in!

She {hearts} BCX Apparel.

I spent last week at a blogging conference.

Actually, it is the largest blogging conference for women in the US!  With over 3,000 lady bloggers (and a few men, too) in one place, you can imagine the fashionable outfits I encountered while I was there!

Since my appearance on What NOT to Wear earlier in the year, I have turned into a much more fashion conscientious mama.

And, you know what?

I kinda love it!

I mean, I still love writing and photography and The Dudes and naps way more, but putting pretty outfits together, and picking out fun accessories, and making it a point to look my very best everyday is kinda fun too!

So, being at BlogHer and scoping out all of the Mom Awesome fashion, was pretty fun for me!

And, I loved that I had plenty to wear.

I recently received some BCX Apparel items from Byer California.  It’s a super cool brand that you can get specifically in Macy’s department stores.  And, there are just so many fun options and ways to pair the outfits (I shared a set here)!

I love that they are colorful, and flattering to women of different body types.  And, I love that they are super affordable!

Affordable fashion is always better fashion in my book!

{heart} It

BCX clothing is part of the Byer California brand.  The items in the collection can be purchased online from Macys.com.  Follow the BCX Facebook page to learn more about the brand and how you can save on pieces in the collection.
