She {hearts} Book Darts

I have left most traditional bookmarks in the dust awhile back. The main reason are my toddlers, I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old, both of them love to lose my place any chance they get. They also love to interrupt me while I’m deep down in a book, with things like emptying an entire bag of cereal on the floor and having a dance party, or throwing anything in hands reach in the toilet bowl and then stirring it up and sipping “soup”. I do not get to wait till chapter breaks to stop reading, often I don’t even get to finish up paragraphs. So I switched to the little disposable colored sticky tabs. The sticky was usually able to last for a whole book provided the kiddos didn’t get to it, pull it out and eat it or something, which was prone to happen (easy access bright colors you know). But I was still using them up.

I found Book Darts at a friends and was immediately intrigued, in fact it was just the thing I never knew I wanted. Something better then my current go-to (in looks and function) and REUSABLE. So I bought myself a tin to try out. There was a little learning curve for me, I was used to opening up to my spot with the help of a tab that stuck out from the page and book darts lie flush (which I now love, because it keeps my littles from losing my place). After using them regularly though I can open to my place just as quickly (or very nearly, and we’re talking seconds here) as I did with the protruding tabs. Book Darts add absolutely no bulk to your book, even when using multiple in the same book. I have never had one fall out or even slip, yet they can be removed and repositioned in seconds without any damage to the page.

While I’ve been using Book Darts for everything from my book club books, to teacher manuals for homeschooling my daughter, to cook books, there was one area that I couldn’t get used to not having having a color code quick tab reference. My Bible. Since I am reading from multiple sections daily (and at times read passages aloud to others) I really did like the sticky tabs- but not enough to keep them. I still preferred the Book Darts and so came up with my own solution. I added a bit of ribbon to a couple of my Book Darts and voilà, I have my very own color coded easy reference book darts.

I’m a high school English teacher and so I read the same book to several different class periods. Having non bulking book marks for each period would be a terrific idea. Love the addition of the ribbon! I think the company would approve!

    cookbook – absolutely
bills and to highlight data that goes on the tax return.
We have a home health book where certain info, like what is poison to pets could use a tab.
And noting your place in a book. I bet they would work great on the calendar to highlight
certain events – Dr visits for instance

Irene: Bob, the guy who started BookDarts, was a high school English teacher too! He saw the need for a better way to mark passages, and also a way for his students to refer back to a passage for re-reading. So he came up with Book Darts and started making them by hand in his basement!

Betty: One of the quotes we put on our cards reads: “In a mushroom manual, these could save your life; in a cookbook, they will merely save you from a bad meal.”
