She {hearts} ImagiPLAY

Some big changes happen around 5-6 years old – the last of the baby years – reading on their own, grasping time, learning to ride a bike, even those baby teeth start falling out to be replaced by ADULT teeth. In the past 6 months or so my 1st baby has lost 5 of them. The first couple teeth spent nights in a sandwich bag under a pillow (with the tooth-fairy hoping it wouldn’t slide off into the black hole between the bed and wall). I knew I wanted to go a different route, and because Providence wanted to keep her teeth (and the tooth-fairy kindly lets her), I decided to look for a toothsaver that could hold all the missing teeth together and also be placed next to the bed (or under a pillow) with the newest lost tooth awaiting inspection from “Larry the neighborhood fairy” our area’s resident tooth-fairy.

ImagiPLAY‘s Toothie toothsaver was just the cute little guy I was hoping for, made of solid wood he generously stores all those missing teeth under his hat, which easily pops off (but did not fall off even when dropped). He now lives on Providence’s nightstand next to her lamp, can’t you just picture him happily tipping his hat to you – or to Larry – with a wink.

She {hearts} The Happy Kid Company

I loved making hideouts, caves, and forts as a child. There seems to be something magical about a child’s space with walls of blankets, sheets or branches. A place for whispers and giggles, or capes and super heros. Loud entrances or quite reading, a space for really anything that fits your fancy.

The Happy Kid Company has made building forts soooo much easier without taking away from the creativity needed.
No more tucked in sheets coming un-tucked or heavy books falling down, each side has multiple stretchy tabs that open and velcro, making a secure attachment in a snap, while allowing you to stay simple or go elaborate as you desire. We’ve loved building with our Fun Fort together, just Providence on her own, or with cousins. And when we’re done playing, it’s as easy to take down as it is to put up- hallelujah!

The Fun Fort even comes in a bag made of the same material which makes it easy to pack up and take anywhere.

She {hearts} Green Toys

I’m always on the lookout for great children’s toy companies.  Green Toys is an eco-friendly toy company that makes wonderful items for your children to enjoy. The company is committed to being environmentally responsible, plus they are working hard to create some of the most unique children’s toys on the market!

I had the privilege of reviewing the Stacker by Green Toys, and my daughter gives it her stamp of approval! It is made of recycled milk jugs, which is awesome, and it is colorful and lightweight (which makes it easy for my daughter to play with it).  She has enjoyed playing with her Stacker inside, outside, and in the bathtub!  She currently enjoys “unstacking” it and laughing at the noise she can make by hitting two pieces together.

You can purchase a Green Toys Stacker here for only $14.99.

She {hearts} Uncle Goose

I fell in love with Uncle Goose when I discovered their special needs blocks that included both braille and sign language alphabets, as well as the traditional english. I have a 6 year old who has been fascinated with Helen Keller since she was 3 (she even chose to have a “Helen Keller” 4th birthday party). We both think she is an amazing woman and because of her Providence has been very interested in sign language and braille- the language of those deaf or blind. These blocks are great not only for those with special needs but for everyone who wants to incorporate awareness of others into their child’s daily life.

Not only are blocks fun for all, but they’re great for developing fine motor skills. Add the alphabet and you’ve got yourself a real winner which is probably why ABC blocks are a staple in each child’s home. After using Uncle Goose’s ABC blocks however, I can quite simply say they are the most well made I’ve had the pleasure of playing with. Straight and true we easily stacked all 28 high.

I love that they are family friendly with their easy replacements because you know at some point “g” will go missing and “i” and “l” will elope. Sleep easy knowing you can complete the set once again!

{heart} It

Uncle Goose has beautiful handmade blocks that deserve a home in EVERY family. Their Classic ABC will run you $34, they also have many, many others to choose from- some of my favorites are antic ant and presidential,  so go on- shop!

She {Hearts} Modern-Twist

My kids have been having fun being creative lately.  They want to do crafts, color, write things, generally just play with markers/pens/crayons/pencils.  One of the things they pull out often is their owl placemat from Modern-Twist.  And you know what?  As a mom, I absolutely {heart} it too!

The placemats from Modern-Twist are made from food-grade silicone and are hand silk-screened with very funky images for your child to color.  Using dry erase markers, you can color it over and over again.  Just wipe it off with a damp cloth and it’s ready to re-use!

I’m very impressed with the quality of the placemat.  It doesn’t crease at all, even when folded up (which is important, cause kids aren’t exactly gentle with things!)  This is a great portable art project too.  Bring it along in the vehicle, use it when you go to a restaurant, or while waiting for an appointment.

{Heart} It

  • Modern-Twist offers many other designs and styles of placemats, doileez, vinotagz and coasters.  Not just for kids!
  • All products are made with food-grade silicone and are free of BPA, lead, latex, phthalates and other harsh chemicals.
  • 100% recyclable and reusable.
  • Prices range from $10-30.
