As the monthly calendar page gets turned from August to September, my mental focus shifts from summer vacation to schooling. Though my children are not attending formal K-12 school yet, we have been working through some preschool activities here at home.
I’m always looking for great ways to encourage learning, so I was thrilled when I found ChildUp. Not only does their website offer parenting classes and tips, but they have a wide range of educational materials to help your child have a head-start in math, reading or multilingual development.
One of the resources they’ve developed are the Learning Game cards to teach basic math skills. Nathan and Natalie loved playing with them earlier this week, and have begged me every afternoon since to play with the “math cards.” We’ve counted, sorted, ordered, identified and added… the possibilities are endless and your child is learning essential math skills as they are playing! But best of all, when you are on the go or don’t have room to spread out all of the cards, ChildUp has an app for that! Downloaded from Itunes, the “iCount-to-10″ app allows for math learning wherever you or your child may be! They can identify numbers, learn about animals, and even hear the sounds that animals make.

Their math card packs feature 16 parent resource cards (to teach you the importance and skills of math education) and 48 picture/number cards to use with your kids.

What a fun way to learn about 2 things at once! :-) This would be great for my kiddos. (I could only use the cards as I don’t have a way to use the apps.)

These are neat cards. I like how they shows in pictures how math works. We’ve been working with our daughter on counting items and these cards would be helpful. I’d love to have a set for my purse. I’ve found that, usually when we’re out, if my daughter starts acting up it’s usually because she’s bored. I could pull out a set of these and keep her occupied for a while and be teaching at the same time! The Interactive Reading course sounded interesting too.
