Some of my favorite alone time is spent scouring and searching and discovering the treasures that can be found within the walls of a musty and cluttered antique store. And I’m not talking about those stores that charge and arm & leg for everything you can find, but I especially love those that you have to dig around in, get your hands dirty, and allow yourself hours upon hours to just soak in. You have to feel and examine and get lost in order to truly appreciate the special gifts you find in these kids of shops, and sometimes it is just as exciting to browse as it is to make a purchase or two.
And I am not much of a collector of things, and I find much more satisfaction in quality instead of quantity. I actually find even more satisfaction in scoring a fantastic deal on an antique than I do covering my walls and shelfs with certain high-ticket, vintage items.
I have always had an eye for vintage Pyrex. I’m not sure what it is about these pieces, but they remind me of my childhood and are cozy and very domestic-feeling to me. I often feel as though I should be doning one of my great-grandmother’s frilly aprons as I cook in these dishes.
And that’s the thing; I adore cooking and baking and USING these vintage pieces! I am not one to display my treasures, because what fun would it be to go through all of the work of discovering these beautiful pieces at an antique shop if you then didn’t go home and use them? I do try to use at least one Pyrex piece at every sit-down dinner we have. It just makes me happy to see it sitting on our dining room table, as little hands try to sneak a bite before we are all sitting down for dinner.
If you love antiquing, what item’s do you enjoy searching for?

I want a whole cabinet full of vintage Pyrex! I love it!!
I WISH we had a store like that but we don’t.
BUT I also am into Pyrex and it started a month or so ago when I found a small covered with pink flowers casserole-Gooseberry for $3. I had to have it! DH was like huh? But I love it and use it to store things like leftovers or hotdogs. I love that I don’t have to pull out-ugh!-plastic wrap to cover the food. I since did buy a blue divided casserole at an antique mall-not cheap, and found some cheaper clear pieces at estate sales. I also use it to bake and serve and store. I love this stuff and spend lots of time looking at it on ebay.
The other thing I like is Flint utensils. I got an old potato masher for my daughter for 25 or 50 cents-not sure how much, because new ones don’t work. My Mom has one just like it. Now I need more for my son and then myself.
I have been collecting pillowcases and linens for years. I love fabric and I also collect dishes. I love color, so that draws me and a good good price makes me feel like I scored, too!
I feel the exact same way about vintage Pyrex! I Pintereste’d your post on my I LOVE Pyrex board :)
